PBIS

Positive Behavior Intervention and Support or PBIS is a three tiered approach to student behavior.  The three tiers include School-wide expectations, class expectations, and individual student interventions.

School Wide Support

In the school, there are the YORK expectations posted for all students to refer to.  These expectations are followed by all students.  There are expectation for hallways, cafeteria, assemblies, etc.  For the purpose of PBIS the YORK acronym means:

You exhibit
Ownership
Responsiblilty
Kindness

The Positivity Project

The Positivity Project is helps students build positive and enduring habits.  There are 24 habits that will be focused on during the course of the year.  For more information on the Positivity Project please click the link.

Each week, starting mid-September, we will be discussing a new character trait.

Classroom Rules

We have spent a lot of time at the beginning of the school year talking about school and classroom rules and expectations. As a class, we narrowed our list of classroom rules down from 25 (thought of by the students) to the most important 6! These 6 classroom rules and expectations are listed below:

1. Keep our hands and feet to ourselves.

2. Respect our materials and our classroom.

3.Always choose kind

4. Be safe.

5. Be respectful.

6. Have fun!

Classroom Management System

This year we are working on earning Popsicle sticks! When a student is demonstrating good behavior, showing respect, following our classroom rules, etc. they can earn golden Popsicle sticks. Students earn sticks for two weeks and at the end of those two weeks we trade them in for a 'Fun Friday' activity. Students with the most Popsicle sticks get to choose first and students with the least number choose last. Every student gets to participate in 'Fun Friday', it just might not always be the activity we want. This will encourage students to work harder and make better choices the next two weeks so that they can either choose the activity that they want first or choose an activity with a friend.

Students can also lose Popsicle sticks. If students are not following directions or not respecting other friends/ teachers, they will then be asked to give me back a Popsicle stick.

Any major issues in class that we have, I will contact you directly.
